From Overwhelmed to Organized: A Phoenix, AZ Garage Transformation Story
Our recent garage project AFTER! Who knew a garage could be this pretty?!
Why Organize Your Garage?
Often times, garage organization can seem like a last priority. In reality, it should be one of the first places you tackle within your home. A garage is usually the first thing you see when you arrive. Arriving home to an organized garage can fill you with a feeling of peace - or it can become a panicked dumping ground of trash and clutter to work around.
A garage is a functional powerhouse within your home. Seasonal storage easily cleaned up and put away? Correctly labeled bins in the garage make this a breeze. Grabbing outdoor items for a day at the park with the family? Easy when they are hung up on a wall track right next to your car. Love a little back-stock in order to avoid taking a million trips to the store for toilet paper each year? Creating a designated area within your garage for extra items gives you the space you need to stay prepared.
An organized garage is essential to the overall functionality of a home. Read on to see the steps we took to tackle our latest garage project along with the go to, necessary organizational products that every garage needs.
How To Organize Your Garage Like A Pro
This family came to us because they were running out of storage in their garage. Sound familiar? They had a few years of built up clutter and were wasting time looking for things they needed! Their new car barely fit into the garage due to the layout of the shelves, fridge, and overflowing clutter. It had become difficult to get their kiddo and dogs into the car for day to day activities and family trips. They wanted more seasonal decor storage as their little girl was obsessed with decorating for holidays. Finally, they wanted to spend less time searching for outdoor gear, and more time enjoying it!
Does this sound like you? Here are the steps we took to get their garage declutter, organized, and functional - and you can too!
We started by taking detailed photos and measurements of the space. Creating a custom organization & design plan is just as important as implementing it! We made sure to pick out shelving, bins, crates & wall tracks that would fit the families space and needs. Next, we ordered and delivered all the product. Our handyman team took care of the shelving and wall track delivery, and I picked up all the bins.
Onto install day! I recommend setting aside a whole day to tackle a garage project so you can put your cars back in the same day. We began by removing everything from the garage, decluttering what was no longer needed, and sorting the remaining items into bins and crates. We moved the fridge over to allow more space for the bigger car, and installed both a ceiling storage system as well as wall tracks and hooks.
Finally, it was time to put everything back. We spent some time space planning - prioritizing lower shelving and wall track hooks for frequently used or heavy items. Then, we placed everything back in its designated space, making sure every single item had a home. After that, we labeled, cleaned up, and gave the family a tour of their newly transformed space!

What Products Do I Need To Organize My Garage?
I’ll be honest - I use the (almost!!) the same formula for every single garage I organize - and I’m going to share it with you right now! These are the exact products I used to complete the garage transformation featured above.
You’re going to want to start with a sturdy metal shelf. Plastic tends to warp and break down over time. Make sure you measure your space first and buy the largest shelf that will fit. Don’t forget to check for height!
Next, you’ll need some bins and crates. Bins of the same style that come in multiple sizes are perfect for stacking. Make sure their measurements are the same so they fit on top of each other, and confirm that each bin will fit on your shelves before purchasing.
I love to add a wall track into a garage when space permits. I prefer the rubbermaid wall track systems. They come in many configurations and with all different types of hooks for customizing your space.
Last but definitely not least - a label maker & label tape! Labels are a MUST for maintaining any organized space.
